Camping in Breakneck Ridge, Hudson Valley NY
To my future self: 2 nights of camping is definitely not enough time to both enjoy the campsite and the hiking. I need a full day to just chill and soak in the nature on the campgrounds. Really learning how to slow down.
I recently went through some photos from fall, and I completely forgot to document my camping trip in Hudson Valley, where we hiked Breakneck Ridge. It was a relatively short hike with mostly bouldering and scrambling. The best part was how we always thought we reached the peak, only to realize that there was more to go.
It was early fall, most of the earth and the trees were still very green and the nights warmer than I expected. We had long talks around the fire about tomato rice and argued over how many packs of ramen would feed 6 people for a post dinner late night snack (the answer is 3).
There's nothing quite like cooking over an open fire on a cast iron skillet. So we did it all day.
On the drive home, we stopped by a farm stand to stock up on seasonal produce. Lots of apples, apple cider donuts, local honey, and cold pressed sunflower seed oil. The bounty of Upstate New York.
Until next time, nature!
