Retreat in the Catskill Mountains, NY

I'm so grateful that I have found my peoples in New York that appreciate spending time immersed in nature and are open to a plant forward lifestyle. I have been collaborating with a new yoga center since winter, and we just had our first team retreat a few weeks ago. We spent it in the Catskills, where we chased waterfalls, forded rivers, ate lots of grilled veggies, and attempted to hunt for food. We learned a lot about our team dynamics and planned on how to grow our budding wellness community. This is only the beginning... can't wait to see how this all evolves and unfolds for us!

I typically take on lots of cooking / chef duties during getaways, but this time we were traveling with a seasoned chef, so I stayed low-key and mostly prepared the fresh fruit. Being the chef is a lot of responsibility, and the amount of prep work that goes into a meal is often underestimated. You can't cook and attend meetings at the same time, and this is the trap we fall into every time. How do we best optimize our time together? How do plan for sustainability and fluidity? What constitutes a retreat?

Notes for future retreats:

  • must arrange for a dedicated chef
  • menu plan
  • allow for free time
  • schedule structured activities
  • stick to the schedule
